The Wabash College Oral History Project grew out of the school's sesquicentennial celebration in the 1980s. Under the leadership of Eileen McGrath, the project focused on African-American alumni, faculty, and staff at Wabash College and on African-Americans living in Crawfordsville. Caleb Mills (1806-1879) was born in Dunbarton, N.H. and graduated from Dartmouth College (Ind.) in 1828. In 1833 he began teaching at the newly opened Wabash Teachers Seminary and Manual Labor College (later Wabash College). Mills is best known for his theories and activities concerning public education in Ind. He married Sarah Marshall in 1833.
